We hope you will find our new website informative and helpful in selecting your future stock. Our main objective on the farm is to raise quality and healthy Dexter cattle. The methods used on our farm are taken from Joel Salatin's book Salad Bar Beef. We recommend reading it for greater insight.
Here are a few methods we are happy to share and hope you find them useful.
1. WORMING:
... a. Mix one to one and a half cups of Basic H in 100 gallons of water every other month. This must be their only source of water when treating. You continue to add water to keep tank full and don't add any more basic H.
... b. Put Perma Guard food grade Diatomaceous earth in the mineral feeder free choice
2. MINERALS:
... a. Mix a 50 lb. Bag of North American Kelp with the bag of coarse mixing salt.
... b. Put in mineral feeder free choice
... c. Salt block and mineral blocks out also
3. HAY:
We supplement when needed with good quality hay, brome, alfalfa etc.
4. FEED:
We do not feed any type of grain to our animals, we treat them with alfalfa cubes and alfalfa pellets, mixed with a few tablespoons of vinegar. This brings them running from anywhere in the pasture. This is our way of checking the herd daily for health and taking a head count of everyone.
